Time worked differently while Jolly was in the other galaxies. When he finally returned to Earth, a thousand years had passed. Everything was digital and modern, nothing was the same.  But he saw that most of the places he had travelled to were more advanced than this.  So he decided to use his newfound knowledge to help propel Earth further.
