With the apocalypse a-foot, Jolly got called back to the place it all started, Egypt.  Anubis wanted to make a deal with Jolly. There were too many wandering souls; Anubis needed them all. He tasked Jolly with collecting them and in return, he would allow Jolly to ascend to the afterlife.  Jolly accepted and became the “Reaper of Souls”.
