To stop the hunting of his kind, Jolly had to infiltrate the church.  What better way to do that than impersonating a Pope.  He read all the old texts from the Vatican, searching for an answer to break the bloodlust. This led him to a spring in the dungeon of the Sistene Chapel. The water is said to remove any worldly magic from whoever drinks it.
